The number of literary Tough Guys and Hard Cases could flesh out a company-sized unit at least, I would think. Those I’ve followed to a greater or lesser degree are Jack Reacher, Dan “Spider” Shepherd, Nick Stone, John Wells, Bob Lee Swagger, and Jonah Said. (Do the Hardy Boys count?) I presume the author creator of each needs to work overtime thinking of the next bad spot to put his hero into in order to stay ahead of the competition.

Here in DEAD CENTRE, Andy McNab’s ex-SAS squaddie Nick Stone takes on the task for a Russian oligarch of rescuing his first-born son and the boy’s mother abducted from a private yacht by Somali pirates. If that’s not a big enough challenge, it then gets complicated.

Is DEAD CENTRE a better read than the best of any of those featuring the others kicking butt and taking no prisoners? Probably not. However, what I particularly liked about this thriller was that it puts the reader on the ground in what may be the world’s most godawful slit trench of a nation. McNab seemed to capture the ambience of the place just right.

And Stone’s use of distress flares is an eye-opening subtopic all by itself. Don’t try it at home.

Dead Centre Nick Stone Book 14 Andy McNab bestselling series of Nick Stone thrillers now available in the US with bonus material edition by Andy McNab Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Sorry, but can't rate this book, because the idiots @ changed the "system" for downloading books to my KIndle, so this is one of several books I've paid for, but can't read.
A LITTLE LOTS OF ACTION
Andy's writing makes me want to brew a cup and go out into the woods and do something. He puts the details into what the chaps are doing and knows all the little stuff to make it accurate. Like how to shoot a rifle, the jungles of Panama and all the crappy stuff that has to happen to have a good adventure.
I simply love these Nick Stone books! you can't ask for a more entertaining easy read. I am now on to book 15 in the series and I have thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them. I would like to personally thank Andy MaCnab for writing these little.escapes from reality. A very solid 4.5 stars! start the series at the beginning and have fun with it!
This book is well along in the Nick Stone Series (number 14) so the author must have a following of some form. The reader is subjected to a morass of acronyms, references by initials only, military service jargon and slang, ethnic slants and foreign phrases, all devoid of explanation. And, all of this comes along with the most varied usage of the 'F' word I have ever run across, including all my years in military service. The first thing I did after bringing this book to a quick end was get rid of it. Mr. McNab's writing style, I'm afraid, is not my 'cup of tea'.
Probably my favorite writer. Every one of Andy McNab's books are extremely well researched. Nick Stone's missions are all straight from the headlines. No super-hero, super ego s***. Just a down to earth Operator. Doesn't have to like the job, just has to get it done!

I'm an ardent McNab fan and was delighted to discover that he had continued the series! Among the military ops genre, his are among the finest! If you haven't discovered the Nick Stone character yet, then get on board with his first, Remote Control, which is an OUTSTANDING read! Stone is, as was McNab, a former SAS deniable ops agent whose life and operations you follow all over the globe. There is no question that the stories ring true and his character is everything one could ask for heroic, utterly capable, stoic, and burdened with human failings that make for the best tales of intrigue. McNab's Stone character reads truer than Flynn's Mitch Rapp, which I enjoy a great deal but find a little too neat. I think this series is among the best out there and recommend it without hesitation to anyone who enjoys the genre.
