Well, I don't really know what to say about this. I read the first one for free, and decided to buy the rest to finish the story and find out what happened. I felt that there was huge potential for this to go places, but each time it fell rather flat. There was no big climax to the story, just many small ones that felt rushed. No great pitfalls and triumphs to make you feel for and root for the characters. I just wanted more. More excitement, more story, less filler. So all in all, it was good, but not great. I think this author has potential if she can just lock onto a great plot line and stick to it. :)Tags : Claimed by the Elven King: The Complete Edition (Elven King Series Book 1) - Kindle edition by Cristina Rayne. Claimed by the Elven King The Complete Edition Elven King Series Book 1 edition by Cristina Rayne Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
I really enjoyed this book. The plot is well laid out. No typing or gramar errors that i saw.
Only thing is that there are quite a few really graphic sex scenes that push this to erotica in places and really don't add anything to the book so I skimmed passed them.
I really liked this book. Love Fay based storylines was so my cup of tea. 😉
Only one thing I would change, Emily shouldn't be so weak. Her lack of strength both physical and mental was disappointing.
Emily and Sethian are a once in a millennia couple. After all, how often do the Sidhe consent to associate with humans on an emotional level. More surprising is why the king needs her in the first place. A truly compelling read. Loved it!
I loved the story but I would have liked to know how Sethian learned/knew about the heroine. He captured her but doesn't go into explaining how he choose her for his "wife". Also, I would have liked for the heroine to fall in love after (at least) several weeks if not months of being with Sethian. It seems that they fell in love without spending any quality time together. Sex is not love. However, like I said, I loved the story and ending.
I really liked this story, it started out very well, with good characters and a good story line but later it jumps to years into the future and loses some of that magic that had me enthralled in the beginning. I hope the author rewrites this book and adds more because it has great potential and started out very well.
This was a surprising story to read, although the MC annoyed me at times, the story served its purpose of "man whisks damsel into fairyland" theme. I'll add the MC, Emily, is obviously a Mary Sue-ish character, and I wish she had more of a personality that I find one too many times in fanfiction written by hormonal teenagers. For me personally, I want to get to know the male and female these stories center around, so it doesn't seem so awkward when "the deed" happens.
And one aspect I appreciate the author doing is not making the "powerful alpha male" an abusive butt (would have asked for a refund otherwise).
The only thing I ask the author to do is to fix the damn grammatical errors. There wasn't too many of them, but enough for it to distract from the story. You would think that with the whole collection, she'd go back and do so, but sadly, no. And what's with all the adverbs?! There are better ways of writing without the unnecessary adverbs. It's a rather amateur-ish written story, even if I enjoyed reading the premise.
This is a first person narrative about Emily, a human, who is transported to the world of the Sidhe and transmuted magically into one herself. Once she gathers her thoughts, Emily finds that her destiny is to marry the King of Sidhe and bear his children, as Elven women are barren. This books spans about 13 or 14 years of Emily's life, involving court politics, magic, treachery and romance.
A couple of items - this bundle was published as four individual books. Because of that, there is a segmented feel to the story, which caused the story to suffer somewhat. In addition, the book's pacing is off. As the story begins, we see Emily minute by minute, day by day, but as the story continues entire years are skipped in a very abrupt fashion, which actually was very disappointing. It reminded me of scratched records on the old phonographs - when you would set the needle down, it would play beautiful music, until it hit a scratch and jumped clear to another spot in the same album. This story was exactly like that. One minute Emily is a very young mother holding an infant, and the next moment the child is 12 years old.
As one reviewer stated, there was too much sex. The sex scenes were beautifully done, but the story would have been better if the author had expanded on the magic of the Elven world, more court politics and more things happening to Emily to round her out as a central character. Scenes where magic were used would have been better if more detail and explanation had been given. In addition, we know that enemies died, but it would greatly have improved the story if those scenes would have been included instead of ...well, she's dead. Some more communication between the Elven King and Emily would have been great too. As it was, Emily was constantly guessing about his thoughts and actions, even though she was suppose to be bound to him.
I know after reading all of that, you probably wonder if I liked the book at all...I did. In fact, I found the story fascinating. The writing was gorgeous and book held my attention completely to the end. I just wish the author would have filled in some vital areas to make this an unforgettable read.
